About American Kush Feminised
Days 1 to 14, seed to fourth node: Expect American Kush to crack in roughly 48 hours on damp paper towel and to break soil by day three. Early growth comes in low and wide — broad seed leaves first, then the dark fan leaves the indica side is known for. Four nodes by the end of week two, stacked close together. Damping off is rare if you hold near 70% humidity through this stage.
Weeks 3 to 6, building the frame: Top at the fourth node and the laterals take over fast. A 60 x 60 cm footprint filled by week five is normal, still under 40 cm tall, which is what makes this workable in a small tent.
Bloom, weeks 1 to 7: The 76/24 character becomes obvious here. Linalool usually shows in week three and strengthens from there, with trichome cover visible without a loupe from about week five. Indoor yield: Medium. Height: Short. Tested at 18% THC. Difficulty: medium.
Bloom Through to Jar
Weeks 4 to 6. This is where the plant stops looking like a frame and starts looking like a crop. Density climbs almost daily — by week five a developing cola should feel firm rather than springy under light pressure. Pull the fan leaves shading the lower canopy at the start of week four, which matters more than usual if the room is sitting near 55% humidity through a damp autumn.
Weeks 6 to 7, ripening. Drop to plain water for the final ten days. The linalool carry gets strong enough that carbon filtration stops being optional in a residential street. Trichomes run clear to milky across the last fortnight, amber showing on sugar leaves before it reaches the calyxes; around 15% amber on the calyxes themselves is a common place to cut.
Drying and curing. Whole-plant hang in the dark at 17°C and 58% humidity for roughly 12 days — when stems snap instead of bending, it is ready for glass. Burp twice daily for the first fortnight, then once daily through weeks three and four. Finished weight should land near the Medium estimate. The myrcene note comes through markedly stronger after curing than it did at harvest, which is the clearest evidence that a cure builds flavour rather than merely preserving it.
Difficulty: medium. In flower for 6-7 weeks. Stands Short. Indoors it returns Medium. Outdoors, Medium a plant. Feminised seeds.
What American Kush Is Like to Use
The effects most commonly reported for this cultivar are uplifted, focused, calm. At 18% THC it sits in a bracket where the dose does most of the work. A single bowl vaporised at 185°C gives a manageable body relaxation with your head still intact — enough to close out a long day in the summer heat. Push the dose and it moves decisively toward physical sedation, which is how it tends to end up as a winter evening cultivar. The Linalool/Myrcene pairing leaves a shifting profile that keeps turning up new notes on the palate.
Where it fits: quiet evenings, a film, recovery after exercise, and the hours before sleep.
The Aromatic Three
Leading with Linalool, then Myrcene, and Caryophyllene underneath. Read across a cure, these three compounds do not stay in the same order. Fresh off the dry, linalool leads. After three or four weeks in sealed glass at 16-18°C the caryophyllene undertone comes up and the bouquet gains a layer it did not have at harvest. Vaporising between 180°C and 195°C captures the widest span of them — run it hotter and the volatile caryophyllene molecules are the first thing you lose.
Suitability and Recommendations
American Kush is a reasonable fit for growers with the basics already in place. Understand pH, know roughly what nutrient ratios do, and be able to hold a light cycle — it will not carry you, but it does not punish the occasional slip either. Photoperiod genetics leave size and timing in your hands — hold it in veg for a bigger plant, or flip early when headroom is the constraint. A September-to-May outdoor season comfortably covers a 6-7 weeks bloom in the frost-free provinces. Posted discreetly anywhere in South Africa, with sourced grow figures shown on every strain page.

Three rounds of backcrossing to the parental line have welded the American Kush cut into the population. The trichome saturation that made the original mother famous now expresses across the whole pack — not just in one or two lucky phenos.

Chosen for purple/dark expression where it shows, dense bud structure and a true indica relaxation profile.
