About Banana Kush Feminised

Banana Kush announces itself in a fixed order, and myrcene is always first out of the jar — deep earthy musk with something overripe and tropical underneath, closer to mango left too long in the sun than to anything green. caryophyllene follows mid-palate, adding a grounding spice. The lab figure on this 76/24 indica is 21% THC, though potency is the least interesting thing about it — plenty of cultivars test the same and taste of very little.

Growing for Aroma Rather Than Weight

The choices that bring out the Myrcene/Caryophyllene/Linalool profile in Banana Kush are not the choices that maximise yield, and at some point you have to pick one. The aromatic version starts in living soil — microbial activity in an established no-till bed produces secondary metabolites a synthetic feed schedule never will, and South Africa has enough good local compost and worm-casting suppliers to make that affordable rather than aspirational.

Through 7-9 weeks, stop foliar spraying after week two: anything that lands on a developing trichome is still there at harvest. The closing three weeks decide which terpenes end up in front — nights held at 16-18°C push myrcene forward, a warmer finish protects the lighter linalool top notes, and you cannot have both. Decide which version of the strain you want before you get there.

Most of the loss happens after the cut. Hang for 10-14 days at 15-18°C and 55-60% humidity, which through a South African summer realistically means a climate-controlled room or a wine fridge set to 16°C. Then jar it and burp twice daily for the first fortnight. The caryophyllene layer that makes this cultivar worth the trouble does not surface until somewhere between day 21 and day 28 in glass.

Difficulty: medium. In flower for 7-9 weeks. Stands Short. Indoors it returns Up to 550 gr./m2. Outdoors, Up to 710 gr./plant a plant.

Aroma, Flavour and Effect

The first thing Banana Kush does at 21% THC is coat the palate with a deep, musky earthiness. The relaxed, sleepy, happy effects follow within minutes, starting as weight behind the eyes and working down through the shoulders and limbs. Fifteen minutes in there is a physical stillness — not sedation so much as a disinclination to get up. Two to three hours at a moderate dose. Caryophyllene sits underneath all of it, adding a grounding warmth that keeps the whole thing anchored.

The Aromatic Three

Leading with Myrcene, then Caryophyllene, and Linalool underneath. How this combination survives the move from flower to vapour or smoke is not a given. Held low, at 180-188°C, the caryophyllene and linalool notes stay legible with myrcene underneath them. Run it hotter, or burn it, and the three collapse into one — still pleasant, but without the separation that makes this cultivar worth paying attention to.

Suitability and Recommendations

Who does well with Banana Kush? Indoor growers who want the harvest date to be their decision. Outdoor growers who want to choose the moment flowering starts. Anyone with the room and the patience to veg it properly before flipping. It is rated medium, which in practice means a moderate learning curve that rewards attention without needing laboratory conditions. Sent nationwide in plain, unbranded packaging, with sourced grow data on every strain page.

Stabilisation Notes — What This Means for Your Grow

Banana Kush began life as a clone-only cut. Translating a clone into seed without losing the trichome saturation demands backcrossing — we crossed our chosen pheno back to the parental line three times (BX3) to fix the elite mother into stable seed form.

Breeding Goal

Pin the trichome saturation of the elite cut into the population.

Selection Focus

Chosen for resin output, a low-slung stature and a clean indica terpene fingerprint.

Pollen / Mother Source

Royal King Genetics select-mother programme — pollen drawn from an internally maintained reversed-female line.
