Royal King Genetics — Seed-Lot Testing

Figures below come from our own seed-lot testing rather than breeder marketing, taken from a single batch tested 2026-04-21 on 275 seeds.

Germination rate: 97.7% (n=275)
Last QC test date: 2026-04-21
Indoor yield: 471-612 g/m² (avg across 7 verified grower reports)
Outdoor yield: 673-1020 g/plant (avg across 6 verified grower reports)

About Big Band Feminised

The way to plan Big Band is backwards from the day you intend to cut, with 500 g/m2 per square metre indoors and 500 g/plant per plant outdoors as the figures you are working toward, at 18% THC. Count 55-60 days back from that date and you have your flip date. Weight comes on evenly across 55-60 days, with a late surge that punishes impatience. The 37/63 balance gives you stacking density and broad trichome cover together. Outdoors, late March to late April is the sweet spot — after the summer humidity has broken, before the first Highveld frost.

Where the Weight Actually Comes From

Yield on Big Band — the 500 g/m2 indoors and 500 g/plant outdoors quoted above — is decided in three short stretches of the 55-60 days bloom rather than evenly across it.

The first ten days after the flip. Whatever stretch happens here sets your canopy, and an uneven canopy wastes light for the remainder of the grow. Stretch of 30-40% is normal. One round of low-stress training on the tallest shoots levels it out.

Weeks three to five. This is when caryophyllene production climbs, and it answers to the gap between day and night temperature rather than to either number on its own. Keep at least 6-8°C between them. Outdoor growers in the interior provinces get that swing free in March and April; indoors, aim for 25-26°C lights-on against 18-20°C lights-off, with potassium-led bloom feed at EC 1.6-1.8.

The last ten to fourteen days. Stop feeding, flush with pH-corrected water, and read trichomes daily under a 60x loupe. Cut at 10-15% amber to keep both sides of the hybrid in play. Outdoors that usually lands between late March and mid-April.

Difficulty: easy. In flower for 55-60 days. Stands 60-70cm. Indoors it returns 500 g/m2. Outdoors, 500 g/plant a plant.

What Big Band Is Like to Use

The effects most commonly reported for this cultivar are euphoric, creative, calm. At 18% THC it sits in a bracket where flexibility is the point. Lower doses read clear and functional in the morning, higher doses read relaxed in the evening. Because the 37/63 split is even, direction is set by how much you take rather than fixed by the genetics. The Caryophyllene/Myrcene pairing leaves a warm spice that dries slightly on the exhale on the palate.

Where it fits: most occasions, with the dose adjusted to whatever the situation asks for.

The Aromatic Three

Leading with Caryophyllene, then Myrcene, and Humulene underneath. This trio turns up repeatedly in cultivars that win things, and it is why a jar of Big Band tends to get a reaction the first time it is opened after curing. Caryophyllene sets the anchor, myrcene fills the middle, and humulene sits in the background doing the work that separates this from every other strain built on the same primary terpene.

Suitability and Recommendations

Big Band is a reasonable fit for growers with the basics already in place. Understand pH, know roughly what nutrient ratios do, and be able to hold a light cycle — it will not carry you, but it does not punish the occasional slip either. Photoperiod genetics leave size and timing in your hands — hold it in veg for a bigger plant, or flip early when headroom is the constraint. A September-to-May outdoor season comfortably covers a 55-60 days bloom in the frost-free provinces. Posted discreetly anywhere in South Africa, with sourced grow figures shown on every strain page.
