Royal King Genetics — Seed-Lot Testing

Figures below come from our own seed-lot testing rather than breeder marketing, taken from a single batch tested 2026-03-17 on 425 seeds.

Germination rate: 99.1% (n=425)
Last QC test date: 2026-03-17
Indoor yield: 410-530 g/m² (avg across 6 verified grower reports)
Outdoor yield: 492-822 g/plant (avg across 9 verified grower reports)

About Headband Feminised

The way to plan Headband is backwards from the day you intend to cut, with 400 g/m2 per square metre indoors and 400 g/plant per plant outdoors as the figures you are working toward, at 23% THC. Count 9-10 weeks back from that date and you have your flip date. Weight comes on evenly across 9-10 weeks, with a late surge that punishes impatience. The 60/40 balance gives you stacking density and broad trichome cover together. Outdoors, late March to late April is the sweet spot — after the summer humidity has broken, before the first Highveld frost.

Where the Weight Actually Comes From

Yield on Headband — the 400 g/m2 indoors and 400 g/plant outdoors quoted above — is decided in three short stretches of the 9-10 weeks bloom rather than evenly across it.

The first ten days after the flip. Whatever stretch happens here sets your canopy, and an uneven canopy wastes light for the remainder of the grow. Stretch of 30-40% is normal. One round of low-stress training on the tallest shoots levels it out.

Weeks three to five. This is when limonene production climbs, and it answers to the gap between day and night temperature rather than to either number on its own. Keep at least 6-8°C between them. Outdoor growers in the interior provinces get that swing free in March and April; indoors, aim for 25-26°C lights-on against 18-20°C lights-off, with potassium-led bloom feed at EC 1.6-1.8.

The last ten to fourteen days. Stop feeding, flush with pH-corrected water, and read trichomes daily under a 60x loupe. Cut at 10-15% amber to keep both sides of the hybrid in play. Outdoors that usually lands between late March and mid-April.

Difficulty: medium. In flower for 9-10 weeks. Stands Medium. Indoors it returns 400 g/m2. Outdoors, 400 g/plant a plant.

Aroma, Flavour and Effect

The first thing Headband does at 23% THC is lift it with a bright, nearly effervescent citrus. The euphoric, happy, relaxed effects follow within minutes, across head and body at once. Thinking stays clear while muscle tension drains off, which leaves the dose as the deciding factor — light for the afternoon, heavier and it moves into the evening without a jolt. Caryophyllene sits underneath all of it, adding a grounding warmth that keeps the whole thing anchored.

The Aromatic Three

Leading with Limonene, then Caryophyllene, and Linalool underneath. How this combination survives the move from flower to vapour or smoke is not a given. Held low, at 180-188°C, the caryophyllene and linalool notes stay legible with limonene underneath them. Run it hotter, or burn it, and the three collapse into one — still pleasant, but without the separation that makes this cultivar worth paying attention to.

Suitability and Recommendations

Who does well with Headband? Indoor growers who want the harvest date to be their decision. Outdoor growers who want to choose the moment flowering starts. Anyone with the room and the patience to veg it properly before flipping. It is rated medium, which in practice means a moderate learning curve that rewards attention without needing laboratory conditions. Sent nationwide in plain, unbranded packaging, with sourced grow data on every strain page.

Royal King Genetics Backcross Line — BX3 clone-only restabilisation
Stabilisation Notes — What This Means for Your Grow

BX3 is the credible stabilisation point for a clone-only West Coast clone-only cultivar. We worked Headband through three backcross generations to recreate the elite cut in seed form. A sibling male pollinates the mother each cycle to drive trait fixation.

Breeding Goal

Recreate the Headband clone-only cut in stable seed form.

Selection Focus

Chosen for terpene profile, vigour, structure and finish-time consistency.

Pollen / Mother Source

Royal King Genetics in-house mother stock — pollen taken from a sibling male drawn from the same selected pheno population.
