Royal King Genetics — Seed-Lot Testing
Figures below come from our own seed-lot testing rather than breeder marketing, taken from a single batch tested 2026-03-30 on 425 seeds.
About Hood Candy Feminised
Days 1 to 14, seed to fourth node: Expect Hood Candy to crack in roughly 48 hours on damp paper towel and to break soil by day three. Early growth comes in low and wide — broad seed leaves first, then the dark fan leaves the indica side is known for. Four nodes by the end of week two, stacked close together. Damping off is rare if you hold near 70% humidity through this stage.
Weeks 3 to 6, building the frame: Top at the fourth node and the laterals take over fast. A 60 x 60 cm footprint filled by week five is normal, still under 40 cm tall, which is what makes this workable in a small tent.
Bloom, weeks 1 to 58: The 76/24 character becomes obvious here. Myrcene usually shows in week three and strengthens from there, with trichome cover visible without a loupe from about week five. Indoor yield: Moderate. Height: Small (0-120 cm). Tested at 24% THC. Difficulty: moderate.
Bloom Through to Jar
Weeks 4 to 6. This is where the plant stops looking like a frame and starts looking like a crop. Density climbs almost daily — by week five a developing cola should feel firm rather than springy under light pressure. Pull the fan leaves shading the lower canopy at the start of week four, which matters more than usual if the room is sitting near 55% humidity through a damp autumn.
Weeks 56 to 58, ripening. Drop to plain water for the final ten days. The myrcene carry gets strong enough that carbon filtration stops being optional in a residential street. Trichomes run clear to milky across the last fortnight, amber showing on sugar leaves before it reaches the calyxes; around 15% amber on the calyxes themselves is a common place to cut.
Drying and curing. Whole-plant hang in the dark at 17°C and 58% humidity for roughly 12 days — when stems snap instead of bending, it is ready for glass. Burp twice daily for the first fortnight, then once daily through weeks three and four. Finished weight should land near the Moderate estimate. The humulene note comes through markedly stronger after curing than it did at harvest, which is the clearest evidence that a cure builds flavour rather than merely preserving it.
Difficulty: moderate. In flower for 56-58 days. Stands Small (0-120 cm). Indoors it returns Moderate. Outdoors, Moderate a plant. Feminised seeds.
What Hood Candy Is Like to Use
The effects most commonly reported for this cultivar are relaxed, sleepy, happy. At 24% THC it sits in a bracket where the dose does most of the work. A single bowl vaporised at 185°C gives a manageable body relaxation with your head still intact — enough to close out a long day in the summer heat. Push the dose and it moves decisively toward physical sedation, which is how it tends to end up as a winter evening cultivar. The Myrcene/Humulene pairing leaves an earthy sweetness with a fruit finish on the palate.
Where it fits: quiet evenings, a film, recovery after exercise, and the hours before sleep.
The Aromatic Three
Leading with Myrcene, then Humulene, and Linalool underneath. How this combination survives the move from flower to vapour or smoke is not a given. Held low, at 180-188°C, the humulene and linalool notes stay legible with myrcene underneath them. Run it hotter, or burn it, and the three collapse into one — still pleasant, but without the separation that makes this cultivar worth paying attention to.
Suitability and Recommendations
Hood Candy is a reasonable fit for growers with the basics already in place. Understand pH, know roughly what nutrient ratios do, and be able to hold a light cycle — it will not carry you, but it does not punish the occasional slip either. Photoperiod genetics leave size and timing in your hands — hold it in veg for a bigger plant, or flip early when headroom is the constraint. A September-to-May outdoor season comfortably covers a 56-58 days bloom in the frost-free provinces. Posted discreetly anywhere in South Africa, with sourced grow figures shown on every strain page.

Backcrossed twice to the dominant parental line. Hood Candy now expresses tight finish window consistently across the population — what made the original cross interesting is preserved without the pheno-roulette of an unstabilised F1.

Chosen for purple/dark expression where it shows, dense bud structure and a true indica relaxation profile.
