Will Rainbow handle a South African summer outdoors? Yes. Put this 30/70 sativa in the ground between September and November and you will be cutting from March to May. It will stretch, and it will use every hour of a long summer day, so give it room early rather than trying to contain it later. Bloom runs 8-9 weeks, placing harvest between March and May across most provinces.

What yield is realistic? 500-600 g/m2 indoors is reachable under decent LED with steady feeding. Outdoors, 600-800 g/plant a plant is normal in 50 litre pots or straight into prepared ground in full sun. At 20% THC with limonene in front, the return on effort is good.

How much can go wrong before it shows? Some. Anyone who understands pH, a feeding schedule and a light cycle will be fine. Neglect it entirely and it will suffer, but a single missed watering will not undo the grow.

Which medium suits it best? Depends what you are optimising for. Organic soil cut with 30% perlite and amended with bone meal, rock phosphate and kelp meal gives the fuller flavour, and all three are stocked by garden centres, agricultural co-ops and hydro shops countrywide. Does it cope with real summer heat? Better than most things you could plant. An open canopy sheds heat on its own. Past 38°C you may see midday wilt, but it recovers within the hour once temperatures fall — 30% shade cloth takes the edge off the UV without costing you growth.

When do I switch to bloom feed? As soon as pistils show, not a fortnight later. The 30/70 genetics changes its demand sharply at the transition: phosphorus and potassium uptake rises while nitrogen demand falls away. Soil growers can top-dress with guano and sulphate of potash; coco and hydro growers should move to a low-N, high-PK formula immediately.

Indoors or outdoors? Indoors buys control over the 8-9 weeks environment. Outdoors, across a September-to-May season, gives you sunlight intensity no LED at any price reproduces, and the full 600-800 g/plant. Difficulty: moderate. In flower for 8-9 weeks. Stands 120 cm. The effects most commonly reported for this cultivar are euphoric, happy, uplifted. At 20% THC it sits in a bracket where there is a usable working range. Vaporised between 175°C and 185°C it lifts mood and mental energy in a way that suits creative work, a hike, or a long afternoon around a braai. The body stays light, so for anyone with a THC tolerance it holds up as a daytime option. The Limonene/Terpinolene pairing leaves a zesty, clean aftertaste on the palate.

Leading with Limonene, then Terpinolene, and Pinene underneath. How this combination survives the move from flower to vapour or smoke is not a given. Held low, at 180-188°C, the terpinolene and pinene notes stay legible with limonene underneath them. Run it hotter, or burn it, and the three collapse into one — still pleasant, but without the separation that makes this cultivar worth paying attention to.

Rainbow is a reasonable fit for growers with the basics already in place. Understand pH, know roughly what nutrient ratios do, and be able to hold a light cycle — it will not carry you, but it does not punish the occasional slip either.
