Royal King Genetics — Seed-Lot Testing

Figures below come from our own seed-lot testing rather than breeder marketing, taken from a single batch tested 2026-04-13 on 350 seeds.

Germination rate: 96.7% (n=350)
Last QC test date: 2026-04-13
Indoor yield: 363-514 g/m² (avg across 7 verified grower reports)
Outdoor yield: 673-872 g/plant (avg across 10 verified grower reports)

About Sour Cream Feminised

Days 1 to 14, seed to fourth node: Expect Sour Cream to crack in roughly 48 hours on damp paper towel and to break soil by day three. Early growth runs upward quickly, narrow first leaves already reaching. Look for five nodes by day 14 with obvious gaps between them, which is the sativa pattern showing early. Damping off is rare if you hold near 70% humidity through this stage.

Weeks 3 to 6, building the frame: This is the point where it tries to get away from you. Start low-stress training in week three, bend the main stem over at 90 degrees in week four, and the secondaries will draw level for a flat canopy by week six without topping at all.

Bloom, weeks 1 to 10: The 17/83 character becomes obvious here. Terpinolene usually shows in week three and strengthens from there, with trichome cover visible without a loupe from about week five. Indoor yield: 500-600 g/m2. Height: Tall. Tested at 26% THC. Difficulty: medium.

Bloom Through to Jar

Weeks 4 to 6. This is where the plant stops looking like a frame and starts looking like a crop. Buds keep extending lengthwise rather than filling out, stacking fresh calyxes along the stems. Secondary branches often out-produce expectations here, since the open frame lets light down to sites a denser plant would simply have covered.

Weeks 8 to 10, ripening. Drop to plain water for the final ten days. The terpinolene carry gets strong enough that carbon filtration stops being optional in a residential street. Trichomes run clear to milky across the last fortnight, amber showing on sugar leaves before it reaches the calyxes; around 15% amber on the calyxes themselves is a common place to cut.

Drying and curing. Whole-plant hang in the dark at 17°C and 58% humidity for roughly 12 days — when stems snap instead of bending, it is ready for glass. Burp twice daily for the first fortnight, then once daily through weeks three and four. Finished weight should land near the 500-600 g/m2 estimate. The limonene note comes through markedly stronger after curing than it did at harvest, which is the clearest evidence that a cure builds flavour rather than merely preserving it.

Difficulty: medium. In flower for 10 weeks. Stands Tall. Indoors it returns 500-600 g/m2. Outdoors, Up to 550 gr a plant. Feminised seeds.

What Sour Cream Is Like to Use

The effects most commonly reported for this cultivar are creative, calm. At 26% THC it sits in a bracket where there is a usable working range. Vaporised between 175°C and 185°C it lifts mood and mental energy in a way that suits creative work, a hike, or a long afternoon around a braai. The body stays light, so for anyone with a THC tolerance it holds up as a daytime option. The Terpinolene/Limonene pairing leaves a shifting profile that keeps turning up new notes on the palate.

Where it fits: creative work, company, being outdoors, and unstructured daytime hours.

The Aromatic Three

Leading with Terpinolene, then Limonene, and Ocimene underneath. Read across a cure, these three compounds do not stay in the same order. Fresh off the dry, terpinolene leads. After three or four weeks in sealed glass at 16-18°C the ocimene undertone comes up and the bouquet gains a layer it did not have at harvest. Vaporising between 180°C and 195°C captures the widest span of them — run it hotter and the volatile ocimene molecules are the first thing you lose.

Suitability and Recommendations

Sour Cream is a reasonable fit for growers with the basics already in place. Understand pH, know roughly what nutrient ratios do, and be able to hold a light cycle — it will not carry you, but it does not punish the occasional slip either. Photoperiod genetics leave size and timing in your hands — hold it in veg for a bigger plant, or flip early when headroom is the constraint. A September-to-May outdoor season comfortably covers a 10 weeks bloom in the frost-free provinces. Posted discreetly anywhere in South Africa, with sourced grow figures shown on every strain page.
