About Watermelon Feminised
Will Watermelon handle a South African summer outdoors? Yes. Put this 80/20 indica in the ground between September and November and you will be cutting from March to May. It stays low enough not to clear a boundary wall, and the short frame carries more weight than its size suggests. Bloom runs 50-55 days, placing harvest between March and May across most provinces.
What yield is realistic? Up to 400g per m2 indoors is reachable under decent LED with steady feeding. Outdoors, 450 - 500 gr/plant a plant is normal in 50 litre pots or straight into prepared ground in full sun. At 17% THC with myrcene in front, the return on effort is good.
How much can go wrong before it shows? Some. Anyone who understands pH, a feeding schedule and a light cycle will be fine. Neglect it entirely and it will suffer, but a single missed watering will not undo the grow.
Further Questions from South African Growers
Which medium suits it best? Depends what you are optimising for. Organic soil cut with 30% perlite and amended with bone meal, rock phosphate and kelp meal gives the fuller flavour, and all three are stocked by garden centres, agricultural co-ops and hydro shops countrywide. Coco under automated fertigation at EC 1.4-1.8 through bloom gives the bigger number. This indica genetics performs in either.
Does it cope with real summer heat? Reasonably. The dense foliage shades itself, so a spell above 28°C slows growth without stalling it. Mulch the root zone and water before 7am and heat stress stays manageable through most of the country.
When do I switch to bloom feed? As soon as pistils show, not a fortnight later. The 80/20 genetics changes its demand sharply at the transition: phosphorus and potassium uptake rises while nitrogen demand falls away. Soil growers can top-dress with guano and sulphate of potash; coco and hydro growers should move to a low-N, high-PK formula immediately.
Indoors or outdoors? Indoors buys control over the 50-55 days environment. Outdoors, across a September-to-May season, gives you sunlight intensity no LED at any price reproduces, and the full 450 - 500 gr/plant. Difficulty: easy. In flower for 50-55 days. Stands 80-130 cm. Indoors it returns Up to 400g per m2. Outdoors, 450 - 500 gr/plant a plant.
What Watermelon Is Like to Use
The effects most commonly reported for this cultivar are happy, relaxed, sleepy. At 17% THC it sits in a bracket where the dose does most of the work. A single bowl vaporised at 185°C gives a manageable body relaxation with your head still intact — enough to close out a long day in the summer heat. Push the dose and it moves decisively toward physical sedation, which is how it tends to end up as a winter evening cultivar. The Myrcene/Humulene pairing leaves an earthy sweetness with a fruit finish on the palate.
Where it fits: quiet evenings, a film, recovery after exercise, and the hours before sleep.
The Aromatic Three
Leading with Myrcene, then Humulene, and Linalool underneath. Read across a cure, these three compounds do not stay in the same order. Fresh off the dry, myrcene leads. After three or four weeks in sealed glass at 16-18°C the linalool undertone comes up and the bouquet gains a layer it did not have at harvest. Vaporising between 180°C and 195°C captures the widest span of them — run it hotter and the volatile linalool molecules are the first thing you lose.
Suitability and Recommendations
Watermelon is a reasonable fit for growers with the basics already in place. Understand pH, know roughly what nutrient ratios do, and be able to hold a light cycle — it will not carry you, but it does not punish the occasional slip either. Photoperiod genetics leave size and timing in your hands — hold it in veg for a bigger plant, or flip early when headroom is the constraint. A September-to-May outdoor season comfortably covers a 50-55 days bloom in the frost-free provinces. Posted discreetly anywhere in South Africa, with sourced grow figures shown on every strain page.

Watermelon Feminised — Breeder Information
Royal King GeneticsRecreated and stabilised by Royal King Genetics , the breeding team behind this catalogue. Seed lots are germination-tested before they ship. More on the breeding process and about page.
Watermelon carries clone-derived parents from the recent-era. We backcrossed twice to the dominant parent (BX2) to weld cut-specific traits into seed-stable form. Vigour and tight finish window run uniform across the population.
Fix parent-cut traits in Watermelon without narrowing the population too far.
Chosen for resin density, indica-leaning frame and tight internodes that suit indoor production.
