About Sour Apple Auto

Sour Apple announces itself in a fixed order, and myrcene is always first out of the jar — deep earthy musk with something overripe and tropical underneath, closer to mango left too long in the sun than to anything green. humulene follows mid-palate, adding a dry, hop-like woodiness. The lab figure on this 81/19 indica is 24% THC, though potency is the least interesting thing about it — plenty of cultivars test the same and taste of very little.

Growing for Aroma Rather Than Weight

The choices that bring out the Myrcene/Humulene/Linalool profile in Sour Apple are not the choices that maximise yield, and at some point you have to pick one. The aromatic version starts in living soil — microbial activity in an established no-till bed produces secondary metabolites a synthetic feed schedule never will, and South Africa has enough good local compost and worm-casting suppliers to make that affordable rather than aspirational.

Through 75-85 days seed to harvest, stop foliar spraying after week two: anything that lands on a developing trichome is still there at harvest. The closing three weeks decide which terpenes end up in front — nights held at 16-18°C push myrcene forward, a warmer finish protects the lighter linalool top notes, and you cannot have both. Decide which version of the strain you want before you get there.

Most of the loss happens after the cut. Hang for 10-14 days at 15-18°C and 55-60% humidity, which through a South African summer realistically means a climate-controlled room or a wine fridge set to 16°C. Then jar it and burp twice daily for the first fortnight. The humulene layer that makes this cultivar worth the trouble does not surface until somewhere between day 21 and day 28 in glass.

Difficulty: easy. In flower for 75-85 days seed to harvest. Stands 40-100 cm. Indoors it returns 450-500 g/m2. Outdoors, Up to 550 gr a plant.

What Sour Apple Is Like to Use

The effects most commonly reported for this cultivar are euphoric, creative. At 24% THC it sits in a bracket where the dose does most of the work. A single bowl vaporised at 185°C gives a manageable body relaxation with your head still intact — enough to close out a long day in the summer heat. Push the dose and it moves decisively toward physical sedation, which is how it tends to end up as a winter evening cultivar. The Myrcene/Humulene pairing leaves an earthy sweetness with a fruit finish on the palate.

Where it fits: quiet evenings, a film, recovery after exercise, and the hours before sleep.

The Aromatic Three

Leading with Myrcene, then Humulene, and Linalool underneath. This trio turns up repeatedly in cultivars that win things, and it is why a jar of Sour Apple tends to get a reaction the first time it is opened after curing. Myrcene sets the anchor, humulene fills the middle, and linalool sits in the background doing the work that separates this from every other strain built on the same primary terpene.

Suitability and Recommendations

Sour Apple is a reasonable fit for growers with the basics already in place. Understand pH, know roughly what nutrient ratios do, and be able to hold a light cycle — it will not carry you, but it does not punish the occasional slip either. Because it autoflowers there is no light cycle to manage at all, which is what makes it work on a balcony, in an out-of-the-way outdoor spot, or anywhere a timer would be one more thing to go wrong. A September-to-May outdoor season comfortably covers a 75-85 days seed to harvest bloom in the frost-free provinces. Posted discreetly anywhere in South Africa, with sourced grow figures shown on every strain page.

Sour Apple Auto — Breeder Information

Royal King Genetics

Recreated and stabilised by Royal King Genetics , the breeding team behind this catalogue. Seed lots are germination-tested before they ship. More on the breeding process and about page.

Breeding Programme
Autoflower Stabilisation (F5) — ruderalis trait fixing
Stabilisation Notes — What This Means for Your Grow

Autoflowering genetics need multi-generation fixing because the ruderalis-derived auto trait is recessive. Sour Apple sits at F5 — every plant in the pack autoflowers reliably and finishes inside a tight window.

Breeding Goal

Lock the autoflower trait in Sour Apple through five generations of selection.

Selection Focus

Chosen for resin density, indica-leaning frame and tight internodes that suit indoor production.

Pollen / Mother Source

Royal King Genetics in-house mother stock — pollen taken from a sibling male drawn from the same selected pheno population.
